Writings of Leon Trotsky: (1932)
Published in Paperback by Pathfinder Press (March, 1981)
Authors: Leon Trotsky, George Saunders, and Iain Fraser
Average review score:

Economic depression, war and working-class leadership
This is one of a 14-volume series of writings by Leon Trotsky, who along with V.I. Lenin was a central leader of the 1917 Russian Revolution. These volumes cover the years 1929-1940, when Trotsky led the political fight world-wide to maintain the continuity of Bolshevik's revolutionary perspective and leadership against the reactionary policies imposed by the Stalinist regime in the Soviet Union. Reading Trotsky carefully, one can learn a lot about history and about today's world, as well as how to apply Marxist methods to orient oneself for working-class political action.

This volume includes more than 100 articles and letters. They cover topics ranging from the economic depression and the rising inter-imperialist tensions leading to World War II, to the Stalinist frame-up trials in the Soviet Union, the Spanish Civil War, and detailed leadership questions posed in workers movements in different countries at the time. These volumes are lively, pointed and have extensive notes and chronologies to aid the reader today.

I'd also recommend some other titles written by Trotsky at this time, including The History of the Russian Revolution, The Fight Against Fascism in Germany, Trade Unions in the Epoch of Imperialist Decay, and The Transitional Program for Socialist Revolution, all available from the same publisher, Pathfinder Press.

Crucial Lessons for Fighting Fascism
This volume contains lessons crucial for those committed to the goal of emancipating working people and oppressed nations.

The workers movement of that time was misled by parties - social democratic and fake communist -- which preferred imperialist "democracy" over workers revolution. This allowed fascism to triumph and, together with "democratic" imperialism, brought us the second world war which slaughtered tens of millions and included the U.S. - supposedly the most "democratic" imperialists - initiating the threat of human extinction with the nuclear bombing of Japan.

Trotsky explains how Lenin's program could have resulted in workers victories over capitalism all over Europe, as well as the overthrow of the murderous Stalin regime and the regeneration of the Soviet Union on a course of world revolution and workers democracy.

Studying Trotsky's writings today is timely as imperialism is again on the march toward fascism and war.

Everything from Frida Kahlo to fighting fascism
You can see why Trotsky was reknown as a fiery public speaker -- he writes with passion, intelligence and friendly, human humour. These pieces written while living in Mexico, staying with Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Correspondence with and about them included here, too. Articles on the eve of World War II, with fascism triumphant in Germany and Italy especially thought-provoking in light of recent developments in France with LePen's electoral showing. He scathingly makes the point in polemic with "our Palestinian friends" (gives you a feel for the international scope of the debate that was raging) that it is meaningless to talk about the fascist danger without addressing the danger of ordinary democratic imperialism. How else, he points out, to join the Indian masses in their quest for independence from the Mother of parliamentary democracy? Unexpectedly fun to browse through and think about.

Heart Disease: A Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine (CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh, Single-User Version)
Published in CD-ROM by W B Saunders (15 October, 2001)
Authors: Eugene Braunwald, Peter Libby, W. B. Saunders, and Douglas P. Zipes

biblical text on heart
it is amazing that such an authoritative text can actually be written. but there it is!. a masterpiece, which is so encompasing that words fail. braunwald has a tradition and every new edition is a towering giant over the previous.seeing is beleiving, thus i strongly recommend this text to any one wishing to perfect himself in any aspect of cardiology.

A HARD-TO-FLAW MASTERPIECE
Anyone familiar with Dr. Braunwald's superb cardiovascular exploits in the "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine" would not be surprised by the richness of this book.
The diligently crafted chapters are comprehensive, authoritative, well-illustrated, and include all the 'ins' and 'outs' of contemporary cardiology. It is one of the most consistent and coherent multi-authored texts in the field.
This single-volume CD-ROM package is a rich blend of evidence based medicine, best practice, and all the user-flexibility an e-book enthusiast would expect.

the Bible of Cardiology
There are many authors that have mastered their subjects. Once in a while however, you come across some authors that have, in addition, mastered the art of imparting that knowledge to others. That is what you have in this volume that has become the indispensable resource for Cardiologists and cardiology fellows. What Harrison's is to Internal Medicine, and Gray's is to Gross Anatomy, Braunwald's is to Cardiology. It is probably easier to talk of the beach without mentioning water than to talk of cardiology without Braunwald's Heart Disease.
This is a very worthy reference resource.

Beautiful Joe

My favorite childhood book!
This is a charming, heartwarming story by Beautiful Joe himself. He tells of the cruel mistreatment by his first owner, Mr. Jenkins, and how he was rescued and came to live with the Morris's - the most loving family on earth! His adventures with the other animals in the Morris family will make you laugh and his love for Miss Laura will warm your heart! Some might say this book is just propaganda for the American Humane Society, but I am loving it all over again 45 years after I first read it! Treat yourself

a wonderful and moving book --for all children and adults
This is a book that I picked up at my grandmother's house when I was probably ten or eleven years old. I can remember what the original looked like, just as I can picture other books that I found in her house, many of them dating from my mother's childhood. This one was special, and I was so glad to be able to find that it has now been reprinted. It is a story of a dog that is told from the dog's point of view. It is an old-fashioned story that will teach your child about kindness to animals, and to others. I bought two extra copies for friends, and reread the book myself. Check some of the other Amazon customer reviews of previous editions of this book--you will see that all readers find it among their favorites. Last year when my father died, my mother told me that this had been one of his favorite books--I had not known that, and it made me sad that we had never talked about it. Get a copy for your family today!

Beautiful Joe Changed My Life
Trying to raise a humane child? If so, you want this book. I didn't realize until I was an adult that Beautiful Joe is essentially a humane education "tract"--a series of quasi-essays on various types of animal abuse held together by the plot line of Miss Laura's attempts to stop animal cruelty. I was surprised by the realization, because I had understood Beautiful Joe as Literature with a capital L--the real stuff, the good stuff. And I'd argue that it is. Much like Black Beauty, it both fulfills and transcends its original object of educating and agitating in the service of animal rights. Each one of its characters and incidents has remained stamped in my mind and heart since I first read it as a child in the 70's. In fact, Beautiful Joe changed my life: today I rescue, rehabilitate, and find good homes for abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs. Every tear that I have shed over these dogs has its source in that first burst of childish grief for poor old Joe. He's a good dog--and he can count me among his good works.

Enchanted Time
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Love Spell (August, 2003)
Author: Amy Elizabeth Saunders
Average review score:

reprint of an enchanting mid 90s time travel romance
In Seattle, Ivy Raymond owns and operates an antique store, ENCHANTED TIME. She normally sees sellers by appointment or in bulk lots, but to rid herself of the pesky elderly woman, she agrees to look at the package. Inside is a book from the sixteenth century that obviously is worth a lot, but the woman insists on $100 or she will sell it to the nearby bookstore owner. A stunned Ivy feels some sort of weird inexplicable connection to the names inside the tome and buys the book.

Ivy reads some of the incantations only to find the spells work though she remains skeptical. However, the last spell she cites sends her back to the drafty abode of a seventeenth century gentleman, Julian Ramsden. As they fall in love, he wonders if she is a spy working for his enemy trying to stop Julian from regaining all he lost. Then there is the Witch Hunter General who will hang female family members of Julian including his beloved Ivy if he is not stopped in time.

This is a reprint of an enchanting mid 90s time travel romance that is one of the sub-genre's best. The story line is exciting due to a tremendous cast who will make moving back and forth in the time stream seem possible. Ivy is a wonderful heroine and her beloved is a delightful hunk struggling between love and desire vs. trust. The secondary characters provide depth to the mid-seventh century especially the Witch Hunter General. Readers will have an ENCHANTED TIME perusing Amy Elizabeth Saunders' appealing tale.

Harriet Klausner

I loved it.
Wonderful time-travel. Ivy is sent back in time by reading a book sold to her by an old lady. She arrives in England at the time of the Commonwealth, witch-hunting & Cromwell from her home & business Enchanted Time in Seattle.

My one hope is that Amy will write a sequel to it for Daisy & Suzanna. I'd love to see them in the 21st. century with their grandmother & Winston. And what about poor Josiah Feake (the witchfinder general) lost in the future. I loved the ending with Josiah ending up in a mental institution & the picture was perfect. Please Amy write us a sequel.

Spellbinding
This is the second romance novel that I ever read. Not that this release is a rerelease, I read the book in 1995, or 96. Despite the fact I first read it so many years ago, I reread it many times.
The historical settings of the novel are done really well. By the end of the book you have grown to love the characters. The way Ivy travels back in time is when someone gives her a book and she reads a spell from it. The person who gives her the book is her future love's grandmother who is searching for her own love. The book ends with Margarethe (Julian's grandmother) finding her love and a happily ever after for everyone except the witch hunter general who most likely ends up in Bedlam because of his foray into the future.

Wattaya Mean, Men Dont Care? a Collection of Poetry "Men Making True Confessions"

LEWIS SAUNDERS
NEVERMIND THE BOOK. THIS DUDE WAS ON THE TV SHOW "CHIPS". THATS TOO COOL. 7 MARY 3 LEWIS, WHERES BARICZA?

"Wattaya Mean, Men Don't Care?" by Lewis Saunders
I thoroughly enjoyed the poetry contained in this book. I found the poetry to be insightful, emotional, thought-provoking, informative and enlightening. This should be required reading for every woman and man (in or out of a relationship). I was entralled by the poetry because it provided me with a better understanding of what men go through when embarking upon new relationships, ending relationships, etc. I appreciated the poetry because it demonstrated that it is okay for men to share their feelings. The author was masterful in his ability to convey the emotions of men.

I "HIGHLY" recommend that you read this wonderful collection of poetry in addition to sharing the book with family and friends.
Ladies, if you truly want to understand what men want, think and need-this is the book for you!!!!

Healing
The soul touching poetry of Lewis Saunders is a therapist's couch bound into a book. Lewis Saunders touches the core of your emotions that have been adversely impacted by the malice of words and actions of those we love or have loved or even worse, by the pain we have inflicted upon others. I walked away with a better understanding of the emotions men experience in the face of painful good-byes and separations.

Ecstasy: Dance, Trance & Transformation
Published in Paperback by Quick American Archives (July, 1996)
Authors: Nicholas Saunders and Rick Doblin
Average review score:

I recommend it, but...
This book is excellent and I agree with all the other people that have reviewed it in a positive way. However, what surprised me is that Nicholas included very little about the bad effects of Ecstasy, such as first-time user panic attacks, negative effects that might occur (anxiety, claustrophobia, fear of others, midweek crash, etc.) I agree totally with him that E should have never been made illegal, but I feel that he was (rest in peace) so passionate about the good part of E that he forgot that E has a definite downside. Ignoring this downside can make some readers think that E is ALL positive. I recommend this book because still it's very informative and obviously well-researched, I just want potential readers (and E users) to keep in mind that Ecstasy is a strong substance that should be used with respect.

Excellent Work!!
Of all the books on MDMA I've read this is by far the best. Very well organized and goes through everything concerning MDMA from its legal status to the chemistry behind it. The text is very easy to understand even for those who do not know much about this subject. All his statements are backed by solid evidence derived from independent research and real life stories. Saunders gives the reader a chance to decide for himself, rather than telling the reader 'This is what I looked up so this is what I think, and therefore what you think as well'. I would recommend this book to everyone. The author has dedicated his life to this subject, as indicated by the quality of his work.

A very informative book on E
Saunders, a brilliant and inquisitive man, writes of his experiences, research, and overall knoweledge of MDMA. From the chemical make-up to the trafficing of the drug, Saunders tackles the entire realm of Ecstasy and its culture. A must read for anyone curious about the subject - #1 Thesis on Ecstasy

Night Shall Overtake Us
Published in Paperback by Onyx Books (July, 1995)
Author: Kate Saunders
Average review score:

A Classic
Most of the reviewers discuss the characters of this book and the romance, and I agree with their assessments that this book is excellent on that score. However, the main reason this book is good is that it artfully demonstrates how the characters were changed by World War I. As the book begins, the characters are interested in society, social conventions, getting married, etc. They expect WWI to be over quickly. It is not, and the way it affects the people and the society makes this book a real standout. I bought this book when it was first published and recently re-read it, which says a lot, because I rarely re-read fiction. This book delivers much more than its cover indicates.

Loved it
Wouldn't this make a great film? Who do other readers think could play the characters? I think Cate Blanchett (with short, redder hair) could be Rory, someone like Winona Ryder as Francesca, Keeley Hawes (from Our Mutual Friend) as Jenny and a plain looking actress as Eleanor. For the guys someone Daniel Day-Lewis-ish as Lorenzo and perhaps a Cary Elwes lookalike as Stevie. What do you think?

Unputdownable
I read this book in a day and have read it sveral times since. It has everything you could want in a historical novel. The characters were so well drawn too - Tertius was adorable. And the ending was extremely satisfying.

The Machine Gunners (Dramascripts Contemporary Plays)
Published in Paperback by Nelson Thornes (Publishers) Ltd (1992)
Authors: Robert Westall, Pat Saunders-White, and Chris Waters
Average review score:

Wow!
I had had this book for about 2 years before even thinking of picking it up and when I did I read it in under half a day. It kept a constant grip on my imagination (mind you I am very interested in all sorts of aircraft) A GREAT READ!

Evocative Novel of Wartime Britain, for Children and Adults
I first read Westall's book as a youngster twenty years ago, and again as an adult just recently. I must say the book has withstood the test of time, and my own growing up -- I'm not sure if I enjoyed it more as a boy or as an adult! I recommend this book most highly, as well as Westall's [apparently out-of-print] "The Devil on the Road".

a 1st class childs view on war torn britain.
as previous reviews have mentioned, this is a first rate novel from one of britain top childrens authors, now sadly deceased. It highlights some of Westall's own experiences in war torn tyne and wear - an idea born from his own son (who many of Westall's books are based on - in memorium), when asked by him to stop a leaking roof on the den/base his son and friends had built. Westall states that he felt extremely priveliged to have been invited into their secret world.(hence the den in the book). a very detailed account for those interested in ww2 britain - right down to shrapnel collections found under hedges, to chrysanthemums for christmas. an excellent read, and a book adopted by many schools for english tutoring. This is his best and first book, but try secret lovers, a collection of short stories, and in particular Blind Bill.

Physiology (Saunders Text and Review Series)
Published in Paperback by W B Saunders (08 May, 2002)
Author: Linda S. Costanzo
Average review score:

an excellent review for the USMLE step 1
I was so happy with this book that I didn't even bother looking for any of its competitors. It can be studied in its entirety within about three days, and it covers everything necessary, and in just enough depth, to understand and answer physiology-based questions on the USMLE step 1, without going into extraneous detail. The charts and diagrams are excellent and look very similar to those that appear on the actual exam.

The emphasis in this book is on concepts, not equations, which is also mirrored in the USMLE exam. (I didn't have to calculate any equations during my USMLE step 1 exam three days ago: no Fick equation, no water balance, no mean arterial pressure, etc...)

The multiple choice questions at the end of each section and the comprehensive exam at the end of the book are also excellent and roughly reflect the content and style of the USMLE step 1 exam.

Great review for USMLE/COMLEX Step 1 and Beyond
I used this book to study for both the USMLE Step 1 and the COMLEX Step 1. The material covered, layout and concise format were invaluable, although the STARS Physiology book by the same author is better if you're not time crunched. The Board Review Series of board texts is excellent and the physiology version is one of the best. Worth the money and a great aide for 1st year students to use during physiology courses.

A must have resource for all medical students!
This book is an excellent resource for persons both entering their first year course in Medical Physiology and for those second-year medical students preparing for USMLE Step 1. A concise, yet detailed text which emphasizes quite clearly the basic principles of Physiology. I am lucky to have had the author, Dr. Costanzo, as a professor and my current advisor. However, having her review text is the next big thing! Detailed pictures and powerful tables and diagrams handsomely supplement her student-oriented presentation style of information. A particularly well written section concerning Renal Acid-Base Physiology, which is Dr. Costanzo's specialty. Any medical student or person taking a Physiology course will not lose a dime by purchasing this book... It is well worth it, believe me! :)

I Don't Have to Make Everything All Better

Authors: Gary B. Lundberg, Joy Saunders Lundberg, and Howard A. Christy
Average review score:

Takes A Real Load Off My Mind!! Thank You!
After trying to solve others problems, encourage them, give them advice, no matter how great I thought they were, this book awakened me to the idea of letting others come up with their own answers and how I could stop allowing myself to be emotionally manipulated. I feel like I have just come out of a coma in this area.

Until now I never understood what people really wanted when they started unloading their feelings and problems to me. They didn't want me to solve their propblems or fix their lives, they simply wanted their feelings validated so they could then come up with their own solutions. For me this is the most valuable information I have found in the last 15 years.

The applications for use of this information are unlimited. I was speaking with a very successful collections agent. As we were talking, the subject of validating people's feelings came up. She told me that this was her secret to collecting on accounts that no one else had been able to.

For me the possiblities for applications of these concepts in all of my personal and business relationships is fantastic.

Thank you Gary & Joy

Excellent information
I wish I'd had this book, these principals, years ago. The book is well-written, easy to understand, and with practice, the principals work. I've found that they also have helped free me from guilt about not being able to fix everything.

Validating Prinicples - Changed My Life w/ Family & Business
This book is written in plain,easy-to-understand language. My daughter was diagnosed with an eating disorder. Parents find it difficult in coping with an eating disorder and this book has helped so many. Professionals and Famiy Members absolutely can benefit and live by the Validation Principles and Questions. I can now listen and understand another person's point of view without having to change it. I have ordered at least six books for close friends. My own therapist has enjoyed the book and is now teaching the Validation Priniciples to parents with teenagers. I am now using the techniques in teaching management in my real estate business.
